This is a thing for school, we had to do an illustration with 8-9 characters in it. I chose stuff from mythology and literature. Some are easier to guess than others, though I am kind of disappointed that I didn’t make them all clear.

Still, it’s a useful study in weird lighting. It’s not done but yeaaah.

Today I did a lot of solidifying of character clothing designs. They’ve always been in my head but translating them onto paper and figuring out how they would look on a living, breathing character was the challenge.

The first I am showing is Kalindra’s. She’s been the most successful. As you can see, I drew a lot of inspiration from her from belly dancers. Dark Fusion Boutique on Etsy is one of my favorite inspirations for Kalindra and derha female dress in general. Several of the reference pictures I use are from there. I’m also inspired by bellydancers Rachel Brice and Sharon Kihara.

Music is also a huge influence over my creations. I’d like to highlight the wonderful SJ Tucker, who unintentionally did some of the most fitting songs for Kalindra and other characters in IA. My favorite song by her is November, but the one that fits Kali best is Casimira.

I also have “mental voice actors” for my characters… Kalindra’s is Heather Headley, a wonderful Broadway performer and R&B artist. The Past is Another Land is my favorite “nice” Kali song for her.

First of the fillers.

This is what I’ve been working on during my IA “break”, updating pictures for a revamped cast page. Obviously no where near done…

I have only a couple weeks left of school and that is what is mostly interfering with my concentration on the comic. However, I am done with this semester May 6, so, as I said, when I am done I can dedicate all my time to this comic and treat it as a full time job. But I anticipate returning much sooner than that.

I’ve shifted into a downswing with some mental health issues too and I think I’m getting sick–or I have food poisoning. x_x I’ve been super nauseous and faint since Friday and it’s not going away…

Since I can’t handle posting the comic I’m going to try to get some artwork up several times a week during this little “intermission.”

I’m glad so many of you understand and support me. I look forward to when I can get back to the comic.

I can’t wait for May, when I can go back to two pages a week, you guys. I’m so sorry. 8(

I’m gonna try to have new stuff up a few times during this break…

I AM gonna do though is sketch of the next few pages, add dialog, and post them. I’ll color them later when things are less hectic. My number one priority is NOT to hold up the story. I really want to see it progress as smoothly and quickly as I can, because I have so much awesome stuff planned. But, it’s super hard as a full time Illustration student alongside this.

The good news is, my semester is over in May and I would really like to switch back to my old 2 pages a week schedule. I will be doing the comic full time in the summer so it’s entirely doable.
